Amanda the busy bee

Bees in a hive.

Can you spot the Queen?

People call me a busy bee but my name’s actually Amanda. My sisters and I live together as a collective at Old Beach Berries.

It’s not all milk and honey because a lot of the bush around us has been cleared and foraging is a tough gig. We have to fly kilometres to get food to keep our colony alive.

Cathryn and David are madly planting bee-friendly plants and they feed us throughout the year because they know we’re away from big honey flows.

We are part of a team of pollinators with our mates—bumblebees, spiders, flies, native bees, hoverflies, beetles and others.

Our honey is our honey, so we’ve got some stores to get us through so we can do our job.

We were invited to live next to the big house so we get to see Mr Leroy Brown and Miss Polly every day.
